Surrounded by stony slopes and softly rolling meadows the Dürrensteinhütte is on the Plätzwiese – a place where you not only pass through on the way to the Dürrenstein peak, but can also spend the night. "The view from the bedroom was breathtaking," says Johannes, "the panorama bowled me over." In the evening, the photographers hike to Monte Specie, in order to watch the sunset there. From the flat pasture hump they have an undisturbed view of the surrounding peaks – including the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the iconic rust-red symbol of the Dolomites. At night the Plätzwiese, which is a part of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, is completely dark. "The Milky Way shone above us," remembers Johannes, "we just couldn't get enough of it!"
